How to connect with a tutor

   

1. Select Login.

2. On the new page that pops up, scroll down to "Create a Faculty Account".

3. Follow the directions to create a new account. Make sure you remember the username and passcode that you create for yourself. The username and passcode that your rep gave you becomes inactive when you complete the registration process and create your own username and passcode.

4. You will automatically be directed to the LiveAdvise homepage where you can connect to any e-structor. Note that e-structors are only available Sunday-Thursday 8PM-12AM EST. You can log on during that timeframe by going to http://connection.lww.com/liveadvise and clicking on Login. Scroll down to "I have already created an account" and enter the username and passcode you designated in the registration process.

 

5. Select a subject under "Access an e-structor now"

6. Wait for your whiteboard to open in a pop up box. You should see a welcome message.

7. Click on "Ask a Question" and you will be prompted to type in the whiteboard area.

8. Type and introduce yourself to the tutor as an instructor testing the service. Click "Submit a Question" when you are finished.

9. When the tutor is ready to help you, you will hear a cowbell ring and the tutor will respond.

10. You may continue to communicate with the tutor by typing in the whiteboard area - you can ask him or her questions about the whiteboard and how it works if you like.

11. When you're finished, say goodbye to the tutor and close out the window.

NOTE: there are several days in late August and December when the Basic Math Skills Smarthinking tutors are not available. The tutors for LWW services also break at the same time, but for a longer period - from several days to a couple of weeks, depending on the service and time of year. In the months of August and December, before you set up an appointment with an instructor to demo the service, follow the directions below and you will see a pop-up alert letting you know the exact days of these breaks. If you want to demo the service live to an instructor, avoid appointments on those break days.

1. Click on Login

2. Scroll down to the username and passcode fields, and enter in the secret passcode that appears on your LiveAdvise Rep Information Sheet. (to access this sheet, go to the ftp site and look in the PIE folder)

3. This code will provide you 24/7 access to the Smarthinking Basic Math Skills tutors, and will also allow you to access LWW tutors when they are online (Sun-Thurs 8PM-12AM EST)

Test Communication with a Tutor

You can test live communication with a LiveAdvise e-structor on Smarthinking's whiteboard. Contact your local LWW representative to get a username and passcode that will allow you to access our tutors.

Once you get that username and passcode click here for further instructions

Note that once you activate the username and passcode, access will be
available to you for a 24 hour period. After 24 hours, the username and passcode will expire.

Our tutors are available from Sunday-Thursday between the hours of 8PM-10PM Eastern Standard Time.

Just make sure you identify yourself as someone that is testing the whiteboard. Give it a try - it's easy!
